  • The B Strong Group is a nonprofit founded to spread awareness of sickle cell disease through education, advocacy and empowerment. One of our main initiatives is to encourage people within our community to become regular blood donors. Until there’s a cure that’s safe for everyone with sickle cell, blood transfusions and exchanges are important means of treatment.

In 2009, Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks created Black Girls RUN! in an effort to tackle the growing obesity epidemic in the African-American community and provide encouragement and resources to both new and veteran runners. The mission of Black Girls RUN! is to encourage African-American women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 80 percent of African-American women are overweight. BGR! wants to create a movement to lower that percentage and subsequently, lower the number of women with chronic diseases associated with an unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle.

Held at Williams-Brice Stadium, the event transforms Columbia’s most masculine symbol pink for a day to promote unity around the cause of feminine care.

  • The Columbia Fireflies are a Minor League Baseball team based in Columbia, South Carolina, and are the Single-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball. Their home stadium is Segra Park. They are the only professional baseball team in Columbia. Mason the Firefly is the mascot of the Columbia Fireflies. Brad Shank is The President of the team.

Since 1985, Central SC Habitat for Humanity has provided more than 280 homes in partnership with individuals and organizations across Richland and Lexington Counties. But Habitat provides more than just housing.

    Habitat homeowners receive financial education, and learn about building and maintaining their own homes, all while paying an affordable mortgage. Habitat believes that a decent place to live, and an affordable mortgage, creates a situation where homeowners can save more, invest in education, pursue opportunity and have more financial stability. With our help, homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better future for themselves and for their families.

  • The Luminal Theater is a nomadic cinema that brings Black films directly to Black & predominantly Black neighborhoods. We provide fully-curated exhibitions of diverse cinema and media of the Black/African diaspora (African-American, African, Caribbean, Afro-European, etc.), allowing these artists to present their work within our unique brand of shared audience experiences, presented in majority-Black communities across the United States & virtually. We also specialize in focusing on presenting the work of local filmmakers in the places in which we exhibit.
